Lernziele
  • Attitudes:
Students recognize the value of effectively using English-language sources in a variety of journalistic contexts, for both background research and primary reporting. They are aware that understanding, interpreting, integrating, and responding to this source material from within their own professional and cultural context is essential. They acknowledge the importance of reading and listening critically “between the lines” when engaging with English-language media. Students appreciate that interviewing and using English professionally requires flexibility of language use and sensitivity to tone, register, and communicative intent. They understand the ethical responsibility of evaluating sources carefully and representing information accurately in all journalistic work.

  • Knowledge:
Students gain knowledge of strategies for researching effectively in English. They know how to correspond effectively with sources in English. Students know how to prepare for and conduct English-language interviews effectively, and how to work with the obtained material. They become familiar with strategies for understanding and evaluating oral ideas and arguments more effectively, and for responding to these ideas flexibly.

  • Skills:
Students develop their ability to research in English, selecting, evaluating, and synthesizing relevant information from diverse sources (for integration in their own journalistic work). They further develop comprehension skills to identify arguments, to analyze the merits/basis of those arguments, and to form a response. They gain experience understanding a range of speakers with different accents, registers, and communication styles. They practice evaluating and critically responding to oral arguments effectively and flexibly. They practice preparing for and conducting interviews in English, including background research, source contact, interview preparation, interviewing, and working with the obtained material.
