Description

Version: 3.0 start 01 August 2021

Short description

The bachelor thesis consists of working independently on a concrete scientific question or engineering problem from the field of data science.
It is usually worked on in a team of two (group work) under the guidance of a lecturer. The students regularly provide updates on the progress of their work. The written final report documents the problem, the work assignment, the project implementation and the work results.

Learning objectives (competencies)

Objectives Competences Taxonomy levels
Competence of working autonomously on a specific research question or engineering problem in the field of Data Science. F, M, SO, SE K1 - K6
Ability to independently acquire scientific and engineering knowledge from academic literature, technical articles and domain-specific resources. F, M K4
Ability to document the results of the project in a scientific-technical report and present them in a colloquium. M, SO, SE K5
Students are able to critically review the results and evaluate whether the objectives have been achieved. F, M K6

Module contents

The Bachelor's thesis is the independent work on a practice-oriented technical-scientific problem. The students apply the knowledge acquired during their studies and prove with the successful completion of the Bachelor's thesis that they are able to work in engineering science.

A Bachelor's thesis consists of
  • A conceptual part, in which the theoretical and methodological foundations for answering the question are formulated,
  • its technical realisation, or implementation,
  • and the scientific presentation and discussion of the results.
The supervisor offers professional support to achieve the goals according to the assignment. While working on the Bachelor's thesis, students regularly report on the progress of their work and discuss the further course with their supervisor.

The results of the Bachelor thesis are documented in writing in a scientific-technical report and presented in a colloquium.
