Learning outcomes
Business ethics and corporate responsibility are closely related to the way organizations communicate. Business ethics and corporate responsibility become visible through adequate communication. This course helps to clarify the interwoven links among business ethics, corporate responsibility (CR), and communication.
Attitude:
The students develop an appropriate attitude towards the function and meaning of business ethics and corporate responsibility in connection with communication.
Knowledge:
The students understand the importance of ethics in connection with business and corporate communication.
The students understand the ethical decision process of individuals.
The students know what corporate responsibility is and become aware the challenges that arise in relation to communication.
Skills:
The students are able to recognize in a specific case how business ethics and communication are related.
The students are able to solve professional ethical dilemmas related to corporate communication.
The students are able to develop a CR communication strategy and manage stakeholders’ relationships.
Course content
A. Focus on business ethics
Ethics in business and communication
Solving ethical dilemmas related to communication
How and why people make (un)ethical decisions in relation to communication
How to speak up and help create an ethical organizational culture in communication industries
B. Focus on Corporate Responsibility (CR)
Definition and explanation of core aspects of CR (identification of stakeholders, guiding principles, measures)
C. Integrating Business Ethics, CR, and communication
Connection with CR and communication
Manage stakeholders’ relationships
Developing an effective CR communication strategy
Form of teaching
Lectures with interactive elements and case studies based on preparatory readings

Assessment
Assessment during the semester in accordance with the specifications of the lecturers taking account of the learning objectives.
