Lerninhalte (Abstract) This seminar is offered by partners from the Institute of Childhood, Youth and Families and in collaboration with FICE Switzerland, the International Federation of Educative Communities (www.fice.ch; www.fice-inter.net). 
Every year, a relevant topic in international child and youth care is chosen and discussed regarding current socio-pedagogical approaches and the organisational conditions necessary for their application and development. In 2020, the seminar focusses on important learnings from international comparisons and on improving services in residential child and youth care thanks to the consideration of children's perspective. 
Experts from all around the world will present (in virtual meetings and/or as guests) their challenging experiences and innovative projects. On this basis, we will discuss challenges and possibilities of thinking “out of the box” and of implementing other ideas in different child and youth services in different countries. The members of the seminar team belong to different organisations with international backgrounds in child and youth care. Thus, they frame the topic with reference to the current international expert discourse in research and practice.
Based on a preparation self-study task, the students relate the example to their own experiences in the field and reflect on challenges and potentials of implementing improvements in their own organisational contexts and cultures.
In the morning of the last Seminar-Day, the students, supported by the seminar team, prepare a small international conference to be held in the afternoon. Their tasks are 1) to present the main topics and international learnings from the first two days, 2) to create the methodology of the conference including thought provoking questions and 3) to moderate the conference. In the afternoon, we will invite some practice experts (as concrete visitors and in virtual meetings) for inspiring discussions. The conference will have workshop-type elements where small groups of students converse with small groups of expert participants, as well as a plenary session.
