Module coordinator

Ulli-Beer,Silvia (ullb)

Learning objectives (competencies)

Objectives Competences Taxonomy levels
Based on concepts of technological maturity, students can explain why and when selected megatrends become relevant for the innovation strategy of a company. Technical and methodical competence K2
Students can plan and carry out a goal-oriented literature search. They can develop a bounded research question and a consistent research design. Technical and methodical competence K3-5
They are familiar with various Voice of the Customer and Lead User methods and are able to develop and pre-test a data collection instrument that is appropriate for the research question. Technical and methodical competence K3-5
They know different methods of data analysis and can apply a useful method for the pretest-data. They can communicate the relevance of the results for product / service development in a convincing way. Social, technical and methodical competence K2-5

Module contents

Methods are introduced and applied,
1. to evaluate and coordinate the relevance and impact of megatrends (digitisation; decarbonisation; decentralisation) for the company
- Technological maturity level
- Gardner cycle
- Roadmapping
2. to identify the requirements and new approaches for new services or products so that they meet the changing needs of users and customers.
- Literature analysis
- Research design
- Voice of the Customer methods: Interviews, focus groups, Delphi methods, surveys, (choice) experiment
- Lead user or co-creation approaches from the field of open innovation
- Development of a data collection instrument
- Pretest
- Overview of qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods
- Discussion of results and their relevance for product development approaches
The (lead user) methods contribute to increasing the effectiveness (collection of needs information) and efficiency (solution information) of a new product. The goal is to gain competitive advantages by increasing the market acceptance, the perceived novelty of an innovation, or by shortening the development time and reducing the development costs.
