Learning objectives Attitude:
  • Students reflect on the terms plurilinguality and literacy in educational contexts and on their relation to first languages, foreign languages, second languages, school languages, professional languages, and languages of origin.
  • They consider the overarching goal of language education to be the promotion of plurilingual resources and plurilingual competence profiles.
  • Willingness to perform in front of an audience
  • Willingness to work in groups and teams
  • Willingness to take on leadership and counselling tasks
Knowledge:
  • Students are familiar with current research on plurilingualism. They know of and reflect on existing conceptual tools such as plurilingual frameworks, approaches, and curricula, as well as materials and best practices.
Skills:
  • Students are able to apply and develop conceptual tools in order to make plurilingual competences teachable and measurable.
  • They can instruct others on how to design and implement educational materials and courses in a way that is target group-oriented and research-based.
  • High resilience and stress resistance
  • High degree of self-organisation and self-control with individualisation of own profile
Course content
  • Linguistic diversity, multilingual awareness and participation through language in educational contexts.
  • Plurilingualism and cognition.
  • Current approaches to the conceptualisation, measurement and promotion of plurilingual and pluricultural competences.
  • Reflecting on and justifying plurilingual pedagogical action, especially in the context of further training for language teachers.
Form of instruction Face-to-face teaching / supervised self-study / project work / coaching.
Performance assessment Development and theoretical justification of a concept for promoting plurilingualism, of educational materials or of an instrument for evaluation.

Grades (from 1 to 6) awarded at increments of 0.25.
