Building physics

  • Knowledge of the basic techniques and requirements to buildings to efficient use of energy
  • Ability to perform computations of the heat requirement of buidlings
  • Ability to evaluate the thermal insulation of buildings
  • Ability to estimate the possibilities and potential of refurbishment of existing buildings
  • Ability to develop concepts for low energy buildings concerning requirements of heat and electricity

HVAC/S

  • Knowledge of the components of heating, ventilation, climate and sanitary facilities and the operating principle thereof
  • Ability to develop basic concepts for building technology
  • Ability to perform simple computations and estimates in the field of HLKS
  • Knowledge of the pros and contras of various solutions

Project work

  • Ability to plan a project regarding approach, methodology,
  • division and assignment of work packages, scheduling, target orientation and quality
  • Ability to rate a building with respect to requirement of energy
  • Ability to perform computations and checking the results for plausibility
  • Ability to present the essential contents of a project work in a short talk and a poster

  • Exercise SIA 380/1, Calculation with Thermo 6 software tool
  • Technical Building installations, HVAC and Sanitary
  • Case study building design
Language of instruction English (language during field trip may be German)
Expected attendance Attendance of field trip is compulsory
Assessment Performance Grade 60%:
 
  • Exercises (go/nogo, no grade)
  • Graded exercise with Thermo 6 (20%)
  • Group works during the semester (weight: 40%)
and
 
  • Written exam at the end of the semester (weight 40%).
If there is a low number of participants, the lecturer may change the form of a repeat examination after consultation with the head of the study programme: e.g. an oral examination can be used to replace a written one.
