Entrance Requirements
Mathematics 1 and 2; Introduction to Biotechnology
Learning Outcomes and Competencies
Students will
know the framework conditions and limitations in the management of bioprocesses in set operation (batch)
;
understand the meaning and basic concepts for calculating biotechnologically relevant variables;
be able to independently solve simple calculation tasks for the mathematical description of a batch process;
know how to correlate the physiological needs of an organism (a cell) and the appropriate composition of the nutrient media for; biotechnological production as well as environmental processes
be able to determine kinetic and stoichiometric parameters of common growth or mass transfer models;
be able to combine basic knowledge from chemistry, mathematics, physics and biology to plan and evaluate a batch experiment in the bioreactor (based on its mathematical description);
be able to recognise growth limitations in the batch process and develop suitable solutions;
be able to draw conclusions about the metabolic state of the cells on the basis of off-gas analysis data.
