Learning Outcomes and Competencies
Professional competences:
The students can …
perform anthropometric measurements and interpret anthropometric data.
plan and execute a physiological test, including data collection and analysis.
explain and apply the concept of postprandial glycaemic response as one tool to assess the nutritional quality of food.
Interdisciplinary competences:
The students can …
describe ethical restrictions regulating the use of such tests in surveys.
describe individual and societal benefits and challenges linked with the popularisation of health data and their collection.
Module Content
Focus of the Nutrition & Physiology part:
Theory inputs on physiological responses linked with nutrition
Anthropometric measurements, including bioimpedance measurements
Simple blood tests (e.g. glucose, total cholesterol)
Planning and executing a simple test with food and physiological responses (e.g. glycaemic index, postprandial responses)
The biochemistry of enzymes:
S
tructure and kinetics of enzymes, in theory and experimental
Michaelis Menten kinetics
