Zu erreichende Kompetenzen The aim of the 4-semester course is to bring students to around the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework level C1. At this level students
• can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning.
• can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
• can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
• can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects.
The course also aims to prepare students to be competent English users in their future employment and/or study situations.
Lerninhalte The course book provides a range of speaking, listening, writing and reading practice appropriate to the course level. The grammar and vocabulary components are complemented by the practice book and additional worksheets.

Articles (related to the students’ study areas, topical issues or popular science) are also used to provide extra reading practice (including fast reading), to develop vocabulary, and as a basis for discussion. Students are also required to read a book during this semester, which forms the basis of either an obligatory spoken or written task.

Writing practice includes job applications and CVs.

Frequent pair and group work activities give students the opportunity to improve their speaking skills.

  • Grundlagen der rhetorischen Kommunikation verstehen und anwenden können.
  • „Werkzeuge“ zur Gestaltung einer lebendigen und wirksamen Präsentation kennen und umsetzen lernen.
  • Frei vor einem Publikum sprechen lernen.
  • Instrumente zur Selbst- und Fremdwahrnehmung trainieren und anwenden. Konstruktives Feedback geben und empfangen können.
  • Mit praktischen Übungen Erfahrungen sammeln und so Unsicherheiten beim Auftreten abbauen. Mut und Freude am Vermitteln von Inhalten aufbauen.
Lerninhalte Dieser Kurs ist als Werkstatt zu verstehen und strikt praktisch orientiert. Erlangen von Auftrittskompetenz durch praktisches Üben steht im Mittelpunkt.

Anfangs machen wir uns mit ein paar Grundlagen aus der Kommunikations-theorie vertraut. Welche Konsequenzen sich daraus für die Sprechsituation vor Publikum ergeben, ist dabei unser Fokus. Aus den gewonnenen Einsichten formulieren wir Kriterien für eine gelungene Präsentation.

Wir erarbeiten rhetorische Werkzeuge, um eine Präsentation wirksam, überzeugend und lebendig zu gestalten. Aufbau und Dramaturgie spielen dabei eine ebenso wichtige Rolle, wie der Einsatz von Bildern und der sinnvolle Einsatz von Medien. Themen wie Absicht, Botschaft und Authentizität sind weitere Aspekte, welche uns zentral begleiten.

Anhand verschiedener Auftrittsübungen wird das freie Sprechdenken entwickelt und zusammen mit den anderen Werkzeugen geübt.

Welch zentrale Rolle die Körpersprache, sowie die Atem – und Stimmführung in der Kommunikation spielt, erfahren wir mittels gezielter Übungen. Dabei schulen wir zudem unsere Beobachtungsgabe, welche ihrerseits ein wichtiges Werkzeug in dieser Arbeit darstellt.

Praktisches Üben und differenzierte Rückmeldungen fördern den professionellen Umgang mit den eigenen Stärken und Schwächen. Angst und Hemmungen können so abgebaut, Mut und Freude am individuellen Auftritt entwickelt werden.

Leistungsnachweis Erfahrungsnote 100%, bestehend aus
  • Übungs Auftritte während Semester: 50%
  • Schriftliche Prüfung Ende Kurs: 50%
Wenn bei einer Repetitionsprüfung 5 oder weniger Studierende teilnehmen, kann die Prüfungsform auf Antrag des/der Dozierenden abgeändert werden: d.h. anstatt einer schriftlichen kann eine mündliche Prüfung abgehalten werden. Dazu braucht es das schriftliche Einverständnis der Studierenden. (Bitte entsprechende Meldung der geänderten Prüfungsform an pruefungsadmin.lsfm@zhaw.ch; Formular kann beim Studiensekretariat bezogen werden.)
