Learning outcomes and competencies
Subject skills:
The students are able to apply common methods and working practices in plant biotechnology
Students are able to apply common methods and working techniques in molecular biology
They are acquainted with basic molecular methods in theory and in practice through laboratory work
The students acquire a theoretical background in advanced molecular technologies e.g., genomics, NGS, post-genomics and bioinformatics
They are able to discuss their findings critically in English, both orally and in writing
Method skills:
Students are able to apply selected working techniques in molecular biology and plant biotechnology for research and practical applications
They can carry out research in appropriate scientific databases to investigate particular project assignments
They can search for, understand and interpret English publications in the field of molecular biology and plant biotechnology
They are able to express themselves satisfactorily in English within the scope of this module
Social competences:
Students are able to plan, work, perform and learn from group projects

Students are able to investigate and learn independently, consulting relevant sources in the field of knowledge

Course content
Theoretical and practical foundations of plant biotechnology (meristemation, propagation, elimination of pathogens, conservation of genetic resources)
Current methods in molecular biology such as forms of polymerase chain reaction, primer design, DNA-Sequencing, bioinformatic analysis and DNA sequence analysis, Blast analysis and phylogeny of own samples.

Coursework grade (50% of total module mark)
Written exam at the end of the semester (50% of total module mark)
