Learning outcomes and competencies Students will deepen their knowledge of key issues in organisational psychology in practical everyday working situations, and know how to deal with these appropriately
  • At the level of personal skills they consciously design their role in the company, husband their own resources reflectively and refine their presentation and interview skills
  • At the level of specialist competences they expand their knowledge of selected organisational psychology issues and basic psychological phenomena and handle them competently in various business situations.
  • At the level of methodological skills they optimise their skills in interaction and cooperation, master methods for internal coaching of employees and know how to address various problems from a social science perspective.
  • At the level of social and leadership skills they are aware of the mechanisms of action involved in the expectations of their interaction partners, deepen their capacity for empathic understanding of others, reflect on the influence of different value systems and reflect on the responsibilities of managers and employees.
Course content
  • Principles of solution-oriented and resource-centred coaching, internal and collegiate coaching
  • Personal development: hope of success versus fear of failure according to McClelland / internal perception versus external locus of control according to Rotter / self-worth promoting versus depressive attribution style according to Weiner / self-efficacy expectation according to Bandura
  • Self-fulfilling prophecies: the Pygmalion effect
  • Classical themes in coaching:
  • Values and attitudes of various generations of workers
  • Decision-making situations
  • Stress research at the behavioural and relationship level
  • High-stress working conditions: demand-control model according to Karasek & Theorell and effort-reward imbalance model ERI according to Siegrist; assessment in FM activities
  • Research into happiness, positive psychology and salutogenesis
  • Diversity management:
  • Working realities of women
  • Multicultural management in FM environments
  • Area of responsibility of senior executives
  • Training of coaching situations
  • Work on selected topics in groups

Expected attendance The course has a workshop structure and lives from exchange, discussion, debate and cooperation in the group
Assessment Written exam at the end of the semester:
 
  • Part: Environmental psychology (30%)
  • Part: Organisational psychology (70%)

If fewer than 5 students are required to resit the written exam, this can be changed from a written to an oral exam at the request of the lecturer concerned and with the written agreement of the students.(Please advise pruefungsadmin.lsfm@zhaw.ch of any exam modification; a form is available from the Registrar's Office)
