Learning outcomes and competencies Strategy development part

The course content of the strategy development part focuses on the basics of developing strategies in Facility Management to optimally support the core processes of an enterprise. The course is based on the skills profile of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM).

BIFM competence "Developing an FM strategy":
  • Develop and implement FM strategies
  • Understand the relationship between core business and FM strategy
  • Adapt organisational structures to FM strategy needs
  • Review, evaluate and adjust the FM strategy
  • Remain up to date with new developments in the FM sector.
 
Business planning part
  • Students can integrate their knowledge of different subjects, see FM services as a core process and make them available to business planning.
  • Students can tackle a strategic task in a structured way and develop a realistic and promising business model from it.
  • Students know the objectives, benefits, requirements and methods of a business plan.
  • Students can optimise time and resources to produce the best outcome in the time available.
  • Students can apply several methods of business planning.
  • Students can develop a simple business plan.
  • Students can present a business plan.
Course content Strategy development part

Theoretical foundations of strategy development:
  • Anchoring of the term "strategy" in standards, guidelines, etc.
  • SN / EN Norm 15221-1 Facility Management from the perspective of strategic FM
  • Level model with normative, strategic and operational levels
  • Corporate strategy> FM strategy
  • Real estate strategy> Real estate development
  • Strategy development in the context of strategic management according to Lombriser & Abplanalp
  • Company mission statements and mission statement analyses
  • Goal setting process
  • Instruments for strategy implementation
Short exercises will be incorporated into the theory as required.
 
Business planning part

The students will produce a business plan based on a case study in teams.

The development of the business plan is essentially composed of the following main stages:
  • Strategic situation analysis
  • Developing strategic options
  • Strategic decision
  • Operationalisation of the strategic decision and creation of the business plan
  • Presentation of the business plan
