Learning outcomes and competencies PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE
The students…
  • know the potential of heat generation by geothermal energy, outside air, and burning of wood, in Switzerland.
  • are able to describe the function of a heat pump, to explain the different kinds of heat pumps and to calculate its coefficient of performance (COP).
  • are able to explain all possible kinds of usage of geothermal energy and the pros and cons.
  • understand the main technologies for the thermal usage of wood.
  • have the knowledge to design the concept of wood burning plants for heat production.
METHODICAL COMPETENCE
The students…
  • can use guidelines, simple tools or standards to make correct calculations in the field of heat pumps.
  • can design a heat pump with a borehole heat exchanger and do the necessary calculations.
SELF- AND SOCIAL COMPETENCE

  • work in groups to fulfil the mandatory task during the semester.
  • are able to search for usable sources and scientific literature.
