Entrance Requirements Physics 1, Mathematics 1 and 2
Learning Outcomes and Competencies Students will learn about physics methods using selected terms and concepts as examples. The focus is not on the range of phenomena as such, but on their description and their connection to basic model concepts. The application of differential and integral calculus as well as elementary vector calculus are increasingly used and applied to concrete problems.

Students will expand on basic concepts in different topic areas: the concept of fields, thermodynamics, optics, the structure of atoms and electrodynamics.
Module Content Thermodynamics:
  • Aggregate states: real gases, vapor pressure, atmospheric humidity
  • Circular processes: changes of state of an ideal gas, the Carnot cycle, heat pumps.
  • Entropy: reversible and irreversible processes, 2nd principle, definition and applications of the concept of entropy.

Electrodynamics:
  • Concept of fields
  • Magnetic fields
  • Relationship between electricity and magnetism
  • Alternating current
  • Power supply, household networks, safety devices
  • Electric motors

Wave mechanics:
  • Oscillations and waves
  • Wave phenomena
  • Optics
