Module groups: Natural Sciences 1-3; Practicals 1-3
Learning Outcomes and Competencies
Students will gain insights into the synthesis, characterisation, and pharmaceutical and diagnostic applications of materials at the nanoscale. They will understand how bio- and nanomaterials such as liposomes, silica particles, or nanofibers can be tailored to release active ingredients selectively, as well as to track their path through an organism. Additionally, students will gain knowledge about the special regulatory aspects of nano pharmaceuticals.
Module Content
The course covers the entire value chain of nano pharmaceuticals, from design principles and production to analysis and characterisation, as well as pharmacological, risk and regulatory aspects.
Fundamentals of nanotechnology and drug delivery systems (DDS)
Liposomal, micellar, and other emulsion-based DDS
Biodegradable polymeric particles
Inorganic DDS
Exosomes and biogenic DDS
Nanofibres as DDS
Strategies for modification
Introduction to DDS analytics
Physicochemical characterisation of formulations
Image-based analysis methods and microscopy
General aspects & interaction with biological targets
