  • Introduction to genomic data
  • Gene databases: NCBI, Swissprot
  • Basic homology: BLAST searches, pairwise alignment
  • Substitution models: basic nucleotide and amino-acid models
  • Multiple sequence alignment: traditional methods and phylogeny aware approaches
  • Gene based phylogenetics: parsimony, distance, and maximum likelihood methods
  • Species trees, orthology and paralogy
  • Simulating molecular sequence evolution
