Learning Outcomes and Competencies
Technical competencies:
Students will acquire advanced technical or subject-related competencies relevant to their bachelor's degree in the field of biotechnology (specific learning areas may vary).
General competencies:
Students will be able to…
independently plan and execute a work process.
justify and reflect on their own approach.
solve and document a subject-specific problem using scientific methods in a potentially intercultural team.
reflect on their personal acquisition of competencies and document these.
recognise and reflect on intercultural thinking and behaviour in relation to their own actions.
Module Content
The module content depends on the activities as well as the targeted and agreed competencies, and for each student is decided upon individually in writing in the application form. Extra-curricular competencies can be acquired in various ways. Here are some examples:
Participation in courses/modules in other ZHAW study programmes, other Swiss universities of applied sciences, or academic universities with relevant study content.
Completion of an online course (MOOC) approved by the head of the programme and relevant to the field of study.
Involvement in research and service projects at the Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology (outside regular class hours).
Participation as a mentor in the cross-year tutor/mentor programme at the Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology.
Attendance at relevant summer schools at universities in an international academic and industrial environment.
Participation as a mentor in the Future Kids week.
Holding the position of class representative for the Biotechnology programme.
